In patients with heart failure, enhanced ventilatory response to exercise is associated with severe obstructive sleep apnea

his is the first study to show that in patients with HFrEF, the VE/VCO 2 slope is associated with severe OSA. When patients with HF perform exercise, an augmented ventilatory response could alert them to the presence of co-morbid severe OSA, which if

unrecognized could contribute to excess hospital re-admissions and mortality.  Notably, an increased VE/VCO2 slope has been shown to be associated with the mortality of patients with HF. We must emphasize that BMI, LVEF, and other parameters of exercise, specifically peak VO 2 were not associated with severe OSA.
